Home sale contingencies — Buy before you sell Buyers often want to know where they will be moving to before they sell their house. One way to make sure that you don't end up homeless, or a double homeowner, is to add a "home sale contingency" to your purchase contract. A buyer can make their contract to purchase contingent upon selling their current home so that if they can't sell, they don't have to buy. The advantage to this type of arrangement is that you can spend time finding the perfect house to move to while not committing to selling your house until you find it.
